Features to know about

Confident Traction in Snow and Light Ice: Square Links Grip Firmly

When the roads turn slick or you hit a patch of light ice, the square links on these Konig chains dig in to give you a solid grip. The diamond pattern keeps more of the chain in contact with the ground, so you get steady traction instead of that lurching feel you get with ladder chains. Whether you’re climbing a snowy driveway or heading through a storm, the design keeps your tires planted and your ride controlled.

Smoother Ride on Winter Roads: Diamond Pattern Keeps Contact Constant

You’ll notice right away how much smoother the drive feels with these chains. The diamond layout spreads the chain contact evenly, which helps cut down vibration and gives you better steering control. It’s especially nice on plowed or packed snow where every bit of stability matters. The smaller square links also make for a less bumpy ride while still giving great bite in deeper snow.

Quick Tight Fit Every Time: Built-In Assisted Tensioners

Getting chains tight in freezing weather can be a chore, but the built-in tensioners on these take out the hassle. Just pull them taut and they cinch evenly around your tires—no extra tools or rubber rings required. Because the tensioners are built in, you won’t lose them in the snow or have to dig around for separate parts. Once tightened, they stay snug mile after mile.

Built for Tight Clearances: SAE Class S Compatible Design

If your vehicle doesn’t leave much room in the wheel well, these chains are made for that. They meet SAE Class S standards and only need 1/2" of internal clearance, so they fit where bulkier chains can’t. It’s peace of mind knowing you can add traction without risking contact with suspension or brake components.

Durable Construction That Lasts: Manganese Nickel Alloy Steel

These chains are built from high-quality manganese nickel alloy steel that resists corrosion and holds up to repeated winter use. The powder-coated side chain even offers some protection for your wheel rims. When you’re done, they pack neatly into the nylon storage case so they’re ready for the next snow day.

Konig tire chains laid out flat on the ground to remove tangles before installation on a vehicle tire.

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. These chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

Is it possible that you were driving on concrete that was not snow packed? If the chain make positive contact with the ground it can cause broken links and premature failure. I cannot recommend to drive on city streets that are lightly covered.

by:

Just got them and they fit as expected to my tires and appear durable enough to be used repeatedly. Looking forward to use them when a snowstorm hits our region.

by:

Fantastic service from knowledgeable service representatives - that has been my experience, I am happy to say!
Great job - keep it up!

by:

This is a life saver. Having a rear wheel drive car (Genesis) the snow and ice of the past month made it impossible to drive. Got these and haven't had a problem since. Was considering buying snow tires for my car but for 500 dollars for just two tires for my car got these instead, and glad i did.

by:

This is my second set and they’re wonde rful.

by:

I needed it to go to Yosemite. I have not tried it yet. The service and delivery of etrailer is great!

by:

The chains came in and fit perfectly and they also store under the back storage area. Cannot wait to be able to use them. Will post pics after the first snow.

by:

Order, tracking and delivery was excellent. These guys know how to e-commerce. The product looks great. Excited to have these chains with me in the Colorado mountains.

by:

Worked great and easy to install. Caught on unforeseen overnight snow while camping. Installation was a breeze and gave me peace of mind on the way down from the mountain. Highly recommended.

by:

Thank you so much for an easy purchase. The website was super easy, and the snowchains arrived about a week earlier than expected.
Thank you for the follow up call after I ordered, I wasn't able to get to the phone, however, the message left was excellent. I WILL BE A REPEAT CUSTOMER!!

Awesome!!

by:

Etrailer is the best! Chains arrived on time for my trip. I test fitted them in the garage and the fit and ease of installation was exceptional. Hope I don’t have to use them, but if so I know I have a great product.

by:

This is my go to snow chains for easy to put on and take off quickly. You do need a round rubber ring to keep the chain really nice and tight. I find the self tightening system is okay but with a rubber ring to tighten the chains down, it is a lot better

by:

Great product at the best price anywhere. I called to place my order rather than making it online because I had a question about shipping time just before Christmas. The lady who took my call was extremely helpful. Regular shipping was free, and she found and followed through with express shipping for just $7. She was super nice too.

by:

I appreciate that there are [install] videos that show how to put these on. All you are practically doing is hugging your tires on your vehicle. The chains worked great and easy to put back into the box for safe keeping next use.

by:

Snow chains fit my application as advertised. Minor issue: one set of chains (I ordered two) label is obliterated. One container was placed on top the other without any padding or cushioning material. The top container destroyed the label of the bottom container. Not a huge problem as I know they are both the same size. If I needed to exchange them…like new and resell able may have been questionable. Otherwise, great service and communication, as always. Thank to all at etrailer.

by:

My rating is based on installation ease and fit. The chains fit well once I figured out how to install them. If you put them on regularly you would memorize how to do it. Since they will only be used in emergencies, I printed a photo of the chains installed and put it in with the chains. That way I can refer to it the next time I need them.
I bought the chains for a cross country trip in January from Pennsylvania to Idaho but never needed them!

Along with the picture, I recommend installing the chains in a dry test run so that you will be more familiar with them when it comes time to use them.

by:

The chains work well and are fairly easy to put on. The chain retaining part of the chain hooks cracked during the first use and were not designed to last long. The crack doesn't impact the chain's performance, but does make install a little harder.

Luckily, there is a five year warranty on these chains. I see that the manufacturer prefers to handle all of their own warranties. Let me send you their contact information via email.

Perfect for my needs

by:

Product exactly as described. Easy to install.
Bruno
and I looked at the chain and said, "now what." After looking at the instructional video we put them on in no time.

Hope I don't need them on my trip but ready if needed.

by:

Great chains. I use a set of four on a subaru outback. Living at elevation, snow and ice. Not uncommon wintertime scene.

Pretty easy on (have a pair of leather gloves and headlamp), five minutes ideally to get all four on in the dark.

Practice with them before the storm.

Very easy off.

Will vibrate your teeth out if travelling on plowed roads, but that's not what they're intended for anyway. Take them off and throw them in the trunk.

by:

Easy to install and nice snug fit. Did not get to use in snowy conditions, as a heat wave came through making our travels easier. Will keep for next adventure.

  • What Tire Chains do You Recommend for My 2019 Subaru Crosstrek with 225/60-17 Tires?
I did some research on your 2019 Subaru Crosstrek with standard 225/60-17 tires, and I discovered that the owner's manual suggests class-S tire chains installed on the front tires only. It is important to go by the manufacturer's guidelines outlined in the manual to make sure you avoid damage in your vehicle's wheel wells. With that being said, we always recommend tire chains over tire cables because tire chains ultimately give you more traction on snow/ice. For the tire chains route,...

Hey Andy, yes the Konig tire chains part # TH01221104 that you referenced are a fit for your tire size of 265/30/R20 but they are not your best choice since you have limited clearance. Instead what you would want is the K-Summit chains part # TH02230K34 that are also a confirmed fit and have by far the best clearances since they are only option that doesn't wrap around inside of tire side wall. That is it in a nutshell. The Thule CS-10 chains are associated with passenger cars so I would look at them for your 2014 Subaru Outback Wagon.
